Schools from local districts bus their kids in to our center twice a week for group music therapy sessions. We serve classes from kindergarten to high school, leading up to our life skills Campus Connections program.

In our music therapy program, each individual’s strengths and needs are taken into consideration as he/she is encouraged to engage in live music making with their peers. The students are involved in process-oriented musical experiences that focus on relating, engaging, and communicating. Various interventions such as improvisation, songwriting, recreating pre-composed music, and recording music can be implemented to enhance each individual’s social-emotional and cognitive development. Within the context of improvised and pre-composed songs or themes, the students’ are encouraged to musically collaborate with peers, negotiate, take turns, and share ideas. By doing so, we are tapping into each of the student’s sensibilities and potentials within the music making and can be generalized outside of the therapeutic setting and into daily life.
